Infinity Dress

Last month there was a New York Times article about convertible clothing and I want to raise my hand here to say, "Yes! I have a bunch of 'Transformer' clothing in my closet." (The term 'Transformer' clothing was candidly coined by my gal pal WW whom I went shopping with one time for these clothes.) Even though this type of convertible clothing, specifically the dress, has been around at least since the 1970's, it is definitely the current rage everywhere right now. And it's not hard to see why. As the term 'convertible clothing' suggests, they can be worn in more than one ways - perfect for traveling! And the fun part is in figuring out how to come up with a different look each time, although sometimes I think an instruction manual would come in super handy. :p These dresses are also very popular because the material used is generally flattering and it's usually free-size so you can wear it form-fitting or loose. Here's how I wear one of my convertible dresses, although I haven't quite figured out all the other ways to wear it yet.

I purchased the dress above from DirtyBling - they're out of stock currently, but there are many other options available. Depending on your budget, you can splurge on a Donna Karan or save by sewing one yourself! Or get one at a reasonable price from any of the stockists below.

@moomeh Thank you, sweetie. Aiyah, buying just one dress won't break the bank! (But I hear ya about a shopping rampage, I myself am curbing my impulses these days...)

I have the Victoria's Secret convertible dress in the pencil skirt style. I actually have only worn it once *hangs head in shame*, but I love that I can theoretically wear it a million ways!

I love how your dress has two colors though--that many more combinations!

I love Looks Nos. 1, 2 and 6! I love the two colors that don't overwhelm!

I'm not sure that a convertible dress is for me......because I wouldn't remember how to change it, nor would I even bother.

Love this How-To. Thanks! I also write for a wordpress site, The Runway Diaries. While researching for a post, I came across a great Interactive How-To-Style photo tutorial on styling the infinity dress..

Go to http://www.VintageOrigin.com and click on “how to style” in the menu bar. You can’t miss it. Anyway it has front and back photos on a mannequin, so you can’t get lost! Hope this adds to your blog!

P.S. If you are looking to buy an infinity dress, www.VintageOrigin.com also has some gorgeous dresses in the Boutique!

Happy Posting,

The Runway Diaries
