Adonis Beauty Blog (Chapter 7)

Thanks for following me on my beauty journey so far. And if you've been voting for me daily at the Singapore Blog Awards 2011 Adonis Best Beauty Blog category, thank youuuu even more!!! In case you've missed the earlier chapters, you can backtrack and/or re-read Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

LED Light Therapy Facial

LED (light-emitting diode) skin treatments, first developed by NASA in the 70s to speed healing during space travel, are now available and used in spas or doctors' offices to treat acne and signs of skin aging. These devices use specific wavelengths of light to treat different skin problems. Research is solidly behind the new products, which seem to work— slowly perhaps, but very safely. via Based on this technology, Adonis Beauty offers LED Light Therapy Facial and this is a customized treatment tailored according to individual skin conditions and needs.

There are 4 colored LED lights available in this treatment at Adonis: RED, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

Red LED Light Therapy may improve the following:
Aging skin, hyperpigmentation, sun damage and chronic sensitivities such as rosacea or other redness. Stimulates collagen production.

Yellow LED Light Therapy may improve the following:
Lymphatic and blood circulation.

Green LED Light Therapy may improve the following:
Epidermal pigmented lesions, diminishes activities of pigment cells for corrective results.

Blue LED Light Therapy may improve the following:
Minimizes the activity of bacteria that causes acne, reduces inflammation.

LED therapy can also improve skin hydration, treat sunburn, lighten hyper-pigmentation. By the way, LED treatments consist of beneficial wavelengths only of natural light and are safe for any age, skin color or type. There is absolutely no discomfort, inflammation, discoloration, downtime, thermal damage or scarring. In fact, the treatment feels very relaxing and soothing. For my skin, the recommendation is to get red and green LED lights. Why? Because:

Red LEDs treat the signs of sun damage and aging by providing more energy to skin cells so they can work harder to heal themselves and produce the collagen and elastin that support healthy tissue.

Green LEDs are effective in diminishing the activities of pigment cells.

This time, instead of taking tons of pictures during the treatment, I decided to make a video of the LED Light Therapy at Adonis. It's just a short 2-minute video but you'll get to see the LED lights in action. It's really cool. Kind like a sci-fi movie. }:)

Here's the video. Enjoy! ^^

Waterfront Food Trail at Riverside Point

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

WHAT: Waterfront Food Trail
WHY: Food tasting
WHERE: Riverside Point

Riverside Point is home to four great venues for eating and drinking al fresco by the river (Singapore River, that is). I have been here a handful of times before, but on this particular day it was most interesting because I got to hop from one resto to another, totalling four back-to-back. I had inquired with my friend Paul in Cali (he's a food-tasting veteran) in advance whether it's permissible to not finish everything served, because you know... a girl can only eat so much, but at the same time I don't want to be rude and offend the chef(s). He said it's ok, so I was relieved to know that. Don't get me wrong, I *love* food but I get full as quickly as I get hungry. More so, I don't love the feeling of having bricks in the stomach whenever I have stuffed myself beyond limit; it hurts. Eating should be an enjoyment, not a punishment. Yeah, I eat like a bird sometimes.

Nonetheless, this was a feast I wasn't going to pass up on! So come follow me on my Waterfront Feast. First stop is Jumbo Seafood, second Cafe Iguana, third Harry's Bar and last, Brewerkz Restaurant & Microbrewery. Let's go and get gastronomically-giddy together!

Jumbo Seafood @ Riverside

✔ Chilli Crab

✔ Salted Egg Golden Prawns

I am no stranger to Jumbo Seafood, I've been to the ones at Dempsey, East Coast and Riverside many times before. Jumbo Seafood is known for their chili crabs (a must-eat when in Singapore). I have had chili crabs at many places before, including making my own at home, and I will say that the version served at Jumbo Seafood tastes the best.

Here's Executive Chef Ng, who's been with Jumbo Seafood for over a decade and he's been perfecting the chili crab recipe over the years.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
Fried mantous on the side is a must, they're the perfect companion to dip into that oozy-woozy delicious gravy.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
Another star dish at Jumbo Seafood is the Salted Egg Golden Prawns, which is VERY VERY good. I've tried making this at home also, but it's just not the same as the ones made by pros. This dish is basically deep fried shrimps, coated with a thick coating of sauce made of salted egg yolk and cream. It is really super delicious. I heart salted egg yolk... :9 You must order this when you're at Jumbo Seafood; I always do. Oh, I'm salivating just at the thought of this dish.

Cafe Iguana

✔ Oro Azul Anejo Margarita

✔ Red Snapper Enchiladas

I don't eat Mexican food very often but I know there's a difference between Cal-Mex and Tex-Mex. The former is Californian version, the latter Texan; I've had both and my preference leans towards Tex-Mex. At this event, I learned that there is a New Mexico-Mex too, which I personally haven't tried. From what I gathered though, good Mexican food is hard to come by in Singapore so it was a treat to sample the Red Snapper Enchiladas at Cafe Iguana. The red snapper was tasty and perfectly grilled, with a smoky undertone. It was most delicious and you must try it.

The margarita which I had here was one of the best I've ever had! I normally don't order margaritas because I usually find them very tart and bitter. But this Oro Azul Anejo Margarita was ultra smooth. The salt rimming the glass brought out the sweetness in the tequila (which frankly, had never tasted sweet to me before; maybe coz I've only had the cheap variety). I can definitely go back for more of this! I learned that margaritas are best when they're on the rocks, instead of blended because the slushy tends to dilute the tequila flavour too much making the margarita indiscernible.

Harry's Bar

✔ Fish & Chips

✔ Peach Bellini

✔ Caipirinha

The next stop was Harry's Bar, where I had some drinks to wash down a plate of Fish & Chips. The fish and chip was nice, while the bellini was pulpy and satisfying, but what stood out for me was the Caipirinha. Caipirinha is Brazil's national cocktail, made with sugar cane rum, sugar and lime. So yes, it is a sweet drink. But not the kind that comes with an umbrella on top. Harry's version was outta this world. Very very yummy! I highly recommended it.

Brewerkz Restaurant & Microbrewery

✔ Buffalo Wings.

✔ Beer Sampler: Kolsch Beer, Steam Beer, Scholar Red Beer, Pilsner, Oatmeal Stout and Dragonfruit Beer.

Ahhhh, beer and wings. They go so well together. Brewerkz has different beers on tap and the flavours are constantly being rotated, so anytime you are at Brewerkz, there's always something new to try. I sampled several different varieties, ranging from light to dark to robust to fruity. My fave would have to be the Kolsch beer, because it went down really smoothly. The buffalo wings were good too, although the Suicide level wasn't all that hot. Adequately peppery and definitely hit the spot. Who can say no to buffalo wings? :p

By the way, this event was organized by omy.sg and the crew was there to videotape interviews. Watch out for it and again I hope I didn't sound stupid. (I've been getting interviewed on camera left and right lately, I should be getting the hang of this by now but no. -__-)

And last but not least, a big thank you to omy.sg for the invitation. The event was very enjoyable and I am mighty glad I exerted enough self-control not to be rolling myself home at the end of this event. There's an on-going promotion (thru 31 July 2011) for these places I've covered here, so please take advantage and try out the food/drinks which have been featured in this blog post. I am definitely planning to go back for more margaritas and caipirinhas soon! :9~

Digital camera images got erased by accident!

This ever happened to you before?

Just last night I accidentally erased the images on my digital camera before I got a chance to back them up to my hard drive. *screeammmmssssss* It was devastating. VERY devastating, because I had taken hundreds of photos earlier during the day and it would be impossible to re-take them. I don't know, I must have had a brief mental blackout moment or something. My fingers decided to go on auto-pilot mode, which was to press certain button combinations on my camera. (I have done this erasing sequence countless of times whenever I finish uploading my images, so I could do it without thinking and my fingers would know automatically where to press, even with my eyes closed. The irony of having tactile memory while handling digital memory. -___-" )

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

Anyway, when this disaster incident was taking place, my head was in the clouds somewhere and the next thing I knew I saw the camera LCD giving me feedback of "No Image" and I immediately thought, "CENSORED". Every image was gone, kappufft, adios, sayonara, no more. Then as if someone flicked on the lights in my head, I realized abruptly what had just happened. There was no way to undo, so the next impulse was curse even more to myself. Because it was really so stupid!!!

And I tweeted my panic.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

Then I received an almost-instant reply with the suggestion to use an image recovery software (thank you @julyclover!!!). I quickly googled and found several, but they were all for PC platforms. I settled on one of the free softwares with good reviews, called Pandora Recovery. It runs on the PC only though (of course... *rolling eyes*), so this was when the ASUS N43 LAPTOP CAME TO MY RESCUE.

(Here's a reminder of why I presently have a PC in my possession.)

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
I was able to feed my memory card directly to the front of the laptop (F:/ drive or something). Quick, quick, please tell me that I can get my images back. Please please please.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
Churning, churning, churning.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
OMIGOD. Look how quickly the Asus N43 and Pandora were able to recover my images for me. Am I seeing this correctly??? *blink, blink*

Total recovery time: 1 min 12 sec
Recovered 352.4MB in 226 file(s).

PHHHHEEEEWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

I was sooooo bloody friggin' relieved after reviewing the recovered images and pretty much almost all of them were intact. About a couple couldn't be retrieved and displayed properly, I don't know why. But 2 out of 226 files was a miracle to be thankful for, that's only like what, less than 0.5% casualty. So happy I could cry.

So what is the lesson learned from this incident?

Thank goodness there was an ASUS laptop around. And it was a fast one.

Sumthin' sumthin' Intel Core i5 i5-460M / 2.53 GHz ( 2.8 GHz ) ( Dual-Core ), 4 GB / 8 GB (max), 500 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 7200 rpm, 14 in TFT active matrix, Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Edition, DVD-RW / DVD-RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M / Intel HD Graphics, 1 GB DDR3 SDRAM.  I don't understand the tech specs much, but I can tell you that the laptop had certainly been most useful during my little crisis. I am so giving it one big giant smooch before I return it. :p

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
Yups, I am golden again. *^_^* Ahhhh...
Otay, thank you arigatoo bubye 再见~~~

Peace out,

1-Caramel Food Tasting

The Moonberry Blog http://team-moonberry.blogspot.com

I gotta say, being a finalist in the Singapore Blog Awards 2011, organized by omy.sg really has it perks. One of these perks includes being invited to a meet-and-greet session over desserts, which recently took place at a food tasting event hosted by 1-Caramel. 1-Caramel is a patisserie, cafe and atelier by the 1 Rochester Group, one of Singapore’s most well-known lifestyle dining groups. An independent and entrepreneurial organisation, it has been awarded in Singapore and also accorded recognition internationally for its creative renewal of underutilised, heritage or hackneyed properties, giving these properties a new lease of life and catering to untouched and evolving demographics.

My sweet tooth and I are definitely not a newcomer when it comes to the world of gourmet desserts. After getting a taste of the patisseries in Paris and being a fan of various New York boutique dessert joints, it is definitely nice to know that Singapore also has plenty to offer in this department of creative and contemporary desserts.

1-Caramel is situated inside Rochester Park, on the second floor house of 1-Rochester (the restaurant). It's a small little cozy space, where you get to enter through the open kitchen and watch the dessert chefs at work before getting to your seats. Once seated, you get a nice view of the lush greeneries outside, but seriously who cares about the view when the beautiful cakes and dessert trays are waaaay more attractive. :p

Oh, since this event was also a meet-and-greet, naturally I got to meet several of the SBA 2011 finalists. I think this was my first ever get-together with fellow bloggers and it was really nice to meet new people who share similar interests (in this case, blogging and food).

I didn't get to introduce myself personally to everyone, but here's everyone at the event. :) *Hello*

Btw, whenever I dined out with pals, I used to be the only (annoying) person at the dining table, whipping out my camera and forbidding everyone to touch the food before I have taken pictures of them. Now I don't have to be ridiculed anymore because these other bloggers do the same!!! Everyone was armed with a camera and we were all food paparazzi.

The Moonberry Blog http://team-moonberry.blogspot.com
What is this? Food papparazi-zation.

Look at how close the lens is to the food. As though the camera was gonna eat that piece of chocolate or something.

Okie, that's all. Food overload. Sugar overload. Image overload (on this blog). It was a really fun evening and I am psyched to have met these cool bunch of bloggers. I wore the Simone Stripe Dress from Marc Jacobs, which I also call the Mobama dress. ;P

Cheers,
