“No matter how powerful and real your feelings may be for someone, if that person cannot fully and honestly return them and therefore actively love you back, these feelings mean nothing. Being lonely … being alone … for many people … sucks. I get it, I get it, I get it. But still I have to say that yes, my belief is that being with somebody who makes you feel shitty or doesn’t honor the person you are is worse. Life is hard enough as it is without choosing someone difficult to share it with. You deserve to be with someone who is nice to you all the time.” —Unknown

Dirty Dancing

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

First dance. First love. The time of your life.

I'm such an 80's kid. I watched Dirty Dancing again over the weekend and I fell in love once more. I watched it in the cinemas twice when it first opened back in 1987 and then rented the DVD countless times from Blockbuster over the years. And I still don't get tired of that movie. In fact, the older I get the more I enjoy it (admittedly I was way too young when I first watched the movie and couldn't fully appreciate a lot of the references).

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

Baby: Me? I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, I'm scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

The final dance scene [high-quality video]. CLASSIC. ♥

I love how Johnny kisses Baby's nose before they begin their foxtrot. Also when he mouths "... and I owe it all to you" along with the song to Baby towards the end. It's so dreamy, my heart does a flip.

The soundtrack also happens to be super kickass, btw.

Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign [3]

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

Thanks everyone for dropping by this blog and also for participating in the Photo Pledge. Find out how to show your support towards this cause here, in case you've missed it. :) It's very easy to do, look at *my* Photo Pledge shown above - yah, just like that.

Do you know... that a Breast Self Examination (BSE) once every month could save your life?

That's right, do BSE once a month, around 7 to 10 days after the start of your period. You don't just grab, squeeze, poke and prod around though — there are a few correct ways to do it. The instructional card below illustrates and explains how to do it properly.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
[Source]

Go ahead. There's nothing wrong with touching your breasts. If anyone should be touching your Kiki and Lala, those hands had better be YOURS!!! Alriiiight, if your man volunteers to assist, feel free to approve his paw-ticipation (heh) but make sure he follows the instructions above closely. I know, I know, I can be such a nag... ;P

It is good to get to know your body well so you can detect something right away when you regularly perform BSE. It is easy, doesn't take a lot of time, costs nothing. Girls, what are you waiting for? Start doing BSE as soon as you can!

Prevention is ALWAYS better than cure.

Peace out, yo!

Criminal

I've been a bad, bad girl
I've been careless with a delicate man
And it's a sad, sad world
When a girl will break a boy just because she can

Don't you tell me to deny it
I've done wrong and I want to suffer for my sins
I've come to you 'cause I need guidance to be true
And I just don't know where I can begin

What I need is a good defense
'Cause I'm feeling like a criminal
And I need to be redeemed
To the one I've sinned against
Because he's all I ever knew of love

Heaven help me for the way I am
Save me from these evil deeds before I get them done
I know tomorrow brings the consequence at hand
But I keep living this day like the next will never come

Oh help me but don't tell me to deny it
I've got to cleanse myself of all these lies 'till I'm good enough for him
I've got a lot to lose and I'm bettin' high so I'm begging you
Before it ends just tell me where to begin

What I need is a good defense
'Cause I'm feeling like a criminal
And I need to be redeemed
To the one I've sinned against
Because he's all I ever knew of love

Let me know the way
Before there's hell to pay
Give me room to lay the law and let me go
I've got to make a play
To make my lover stay
So what would an angel say, the devil wants to know

What I need is a good defense
Cause I'm feelin' like a criminal
And I need to be redeemed
To the one I've sinned against
Because he's all I ever knew of love

What I need is a good defense
'Cause I'm feeling like a criminal
And I need to be redeemed
To the one I've sinned against
Because he's all I ever knew of love

I love this song to bits and I sing it at karaoke whenever I get a chance to. Not to mention how much I totally dig the MTV. Silk lingerie. Green shaggy carpet. Retro apartment. Camera. Post-coital crime scene. Mad sexy and badass, if you ask me.

Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign [2]

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

This year, Estée Lauder's Global Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is reaching out to social media to further raise awareness. One of the exciting (and cost-free) ways to pledge your support towards this cause is by participating in a Photo Pledge, curated by yours truly.

PLEDGE YOUR SUPPORT WITH A PHOTO

1. Select one of the printables I've designed below, and sign your name.

2. Take a picture of yourself holding the printable.
(If you are camera-shy, just photograph the printable only.)

3. Upload the photo to MOONBERRY'S FACEBOOK WALL, before September 26th.

(Feel free to write your own pledge too, on a napkin or whatever, and upload the pic. The printables I designed are meant as a guideline and I hope they are useful if you decide to use them.)

Honor your pledge during the month of October. Put the words into action! Congratulations, you have joined the Photo Pledge. :D

Here's an example of mine:

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

All the Photo Pledges received will be displayed during an Estée Lauder Breast Cancer Awareness ILLUMINATION event on October 1. This ILLUMINATION is an event during which multiple landmarks all over the world are illuminated in pink light to highlight (pardon the pun) this worthy cause. Some of the landmarks previously bathed in pink include Rockefeller Center in NYC, Harrods in UK, LAX Int'l Airport in LA, Cristo Redentor in Brazil, Il Biancone in Italy.

This year the Singapore Flyer will be illuminated on October 1st at 8pm. The Illumination event is viewable publicly and everyone is strongly encouraged to attend. Hey, you will get to spot your Photo Pledges there too on the pledge board.

So please kindly help spread the word by sharing this blog address, tweet about the Photo Pledge or forward the printables to your friends, family, classmates, coworkers, etc, so that they can show their support too. It will be really great to get as many as possible to join and see everyone's photos in one place. Thank youuuuuuuuuuu. *muahz*

Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign [1]

Oh, the female breasts. Men love 'em, women obsess over 'em. When they're small, you wish for them to be bigger. When they're big, women flaunt them and show off cleavages proudly like a feminine badge. Clearly, breasts are a big deal. What's an even bigger (and much more serious) deal? Breast cancer.

As you may or may not already know, Breast Cancer Awareness month takes place in October every year and this year I am super duper honored to be appointed as an ambassador for the Estée Lauder Global Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. *WOOT* :) :) :)

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

Now, breast cancer is not something to be taken lightly. Yes we all have heard the words "breast cancer" tossed around everywhere but what exactly is breast cancer?? Breast cancer is an uncontrolled growth of breast cells. The term “breast cancer” refers to a malignant tumor that has developed from abnormal cells in the breast.[via]

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Singapore. 1 in 17 women develops breast cancer in her lifetime.[via] Worldwide, breast cancer is the second most prevalent cancer and is the most common cause of cancer related deaths among women. I hate to break it to you... if you're female, then you are definitely at risk. :( So I want to emphasize that early detection is crucial.

It is never too early to find out; the earlier you detect any breast anomaly, the quicker you can seek medical attention. Breast self-exam should be part of your monthly health care routine, and you should visit your doctor if you experience breast changes. I will write more about how to perform breast self-examination at home in another post.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

I am proud to be an ambassador and pledge my support for the Global Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign this year. Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing informative content pertaining to this topic on my blog. And probably some entertainment content too, if I can get around to it (so that I can include my male readers; there are guys reading this blog too right? Right? I know you guys luv boobs. Kekeke.) I hope that you, my blog readers, will join me in pledging your support on this campaign. Every little effort counts and together we can make a difference in finding a cure in our lifetime. Uhm, that would be NOW.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

Here's a little tidbit for you: The pink ribbon, the ubiquitous worldwide symbol of breast health and breast cancer awareness, was created by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1992. Estée Lauder has been very actively involved in raising awareness about the importance of breast health and advocating early detection. Since 1993, the Estée Lauder brand has also donated more than $8 million to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®. The mission of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide, and increasing public awareness about good breast health.

Sorry I look all gross and icky in the video coz it was one muggy afternoon. My bangs were sticking on my forehead and it didn't occur to me at the time that I should've turned the aircon on - d'oh. I could only wish I had breeze blowing in my hair or sumthin'. :x Tis all good, tis all good. :)
