Magic To Win Press Conference & Gala Premiere

Back in the 80s, my grandfather used to bring me to watch this series of Hong Kong comedy films called "The Happy Ghost". I don't remember much of the movie plots now but I remember them being funny, goofy and silly. They were not scary at all. The titular 'happy ghost' in these movies is Raymond Wong 黃百鳴 and he was most well-known and fondly remembered as the happy ghost. It is no surprise that the Happy Ghost series became a classic over the years in Hong Kong, because of the good-natured humor in all of them.

After a hiatus of 20 years, the latest installment in the Happy Ghost series is called MAGIC TO WIN 開心鬼之開心魔法. From the director of Ip Man (which is also a great film, btw), this film starred Wu Zun 吳尊 (whom we all know is super yummy eye candy). ;P I was invited to a press conference and gala premiere of Magic To Win, and the entire Happy Ghost concept has been contemporarized to include elements of fantasy, adventure, action and magic.

Check out some of the pictures I took at the press conference.

My "press" pass... :p

Hi, Wu Zun.

Here's another one of Wu Zun.

Thumbs up!

Truth be told, I had never been to a press conference before so I wasn't very prepared; I was there just on a look-see basis. I should've asked a question or two... :']

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
Now... Wu Zun is yummy and all, but I think my infatuated-over-pretty-boys days are officially over because ooh lala, who caught my eye on the billboard promo poster? WU JING — who dat!?!?!?!

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
Clearly he must be the villain in this film, looking at how he was styled with the sinister facial expression and aloof body language. Mmm, mmm, mmmm! 超級 MAN, 對不對?Now that's hawt.

At the gala premiere later that night, where the trio gave another quick introduction of the movie to audience.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
And I was right! When I watched the film, Wu Jing is definitely the bad guy. You gotta catch the movie to find out what happened to him in the end.

You know, I don't think it is easy to be a bad guy in movies. Anyone can be the good guy, but I think it takes serious acting chops to pull off a believable and convincing potrayal of a bad-to-the-bone, I'm-gonna-destroy-y'all psycho with charisma. Agree? Bad guys are bad ass mofos. LIKE! ;p

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com
All in all, this movie is a fun flick with a decent plot and all the appropriate visual effects. I say 'appropriate' because I didn't find the CGI to be overwhelming like in some other films. I particularly love the styling of the amusement park (dreamy and fantasy-like, sorta like a pop MTV backdrop). I thought that was done tastefully and beautifully. I also like the light saber duel between Wu Zun and Wu Jing; I want to know where and how I can get me a light saber too. ;)

Ok, I am not going to write any spoilers for the movie. If you're looking for something light-hearted to watch next weekend, be sure to check out Magic To Win — it opens in Singapore theatres December 8. :) Enjoy!

Stephane Rolland at Women's Fashion Week 2011

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

I caught the dramatic designs by haute couture fashion designer Stephane Rolland at the finale show of Women's Fashion Week 2011 (Singapore). Let me take you on a sneak peek of what went on that night at the show.

A short introduction and bio of the designers who headlined this fashion event.

Man of the hour: Stephane Rolland.

If you are unfamiliar with who Stephane Rolland is, here's the brief bio.

The theme that day was Winter, hence the lighting and decor were designed to create that ambiance. The earlier shows which took place during previous days bore other seasons and the event decor was modified accordingly.

The show's about to start!!!

Too bad I did not capture a video, but just wanna note here that the music which the models went down the runway to was this uber cool jungle beat. It was really dope!

As soon as the first model walked down the runway, I got engrossed by the show so I didn't take many pictures. The photos you're seeing below are swiped from vogue.it website.

Out of all the outfits in this collection, my favourite is the black number (bottom left).

The grand finale dress was this exquisitely weaved silk dress weighing 45 kg or something crazy like that. Can you believe it?!? This dress weighs more than me! (And probably that model too.)

So who's never heard of Stephane Rolland before?

*raise hand*... Me.

-___-"

Yes, I admit I have never heard of this fashion designer prior to the show and honestly I am not too crazy about the Fall/Winter 2011-12 collection that was showcased during the show. :X HOWEVER! When as I was searching for background info for this blog post, I did spot several of his designs in past collections which caught my eye. And I'd say that his signature style is a combination of feminine silhouettes and strong bold geometric/angular accents.

Anyhoo, I am not an expert when it comes to fashion. I usually spot the pieces that I like and can see myself wearing, so that's that. :"P

The Way I Am

If you were falling, then I would catch you.
You need a light, I'd find a match.

Cause I love the way you say good morning.
And you take me the way I am.

If you are chilly, here take my sweater.
Your head is aching, I'll make it better.

Cause I love the way you call me baby.
And you take me the way I am.

I'd buy you Rogaine when you start losing all your hair.
Sew on patches to all you tear.

Cause I love you more than I could ever promise.
And you take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.

No rain, no rainbow

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

There is something magical about rainbows, isn't there? The formation is so majestic, the colors are perpetually uplifting and it is impossible not to feel happy whenever you spot one in the sky after the rain. Like a giant sign in your face, reminding you that the rain has passed and all is well. How's that for a positive message from up there?

I was at the nursery a while back and saw this unique variety of roses which were made to look like a rainbow, with each petal a different color (ahem, roses don't come naturally like that). Still, I thought they were beautiful and I couldn't help but wonder how the heck were they able to do this on individual petals? o_O

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

See? Pretty innit? I picked up three and placed them next to my bed; couldn't stop staring at them for days. :P No, I didn't solve the mystery but I was very happy to admire and enjoy them. They also inspired me to put together a roundup of rainbow inspirations. Check it out, check it out.

Oh, by the way when I was in Paris I was looking for a public bathroom on the way to the Louvre and stumbled upon the ultra luxe public restroom which also happened to be the Renova store too. Yes, I'd like me some rainbow-colored toilet paper in my bathrooms at home please. ;) Shop online here and here.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

I'm telling ya, there's something about a product lineup in the colors of the rainbow that appeals to consumers visually. Can't go wrong with the rainbow formation.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

Incidentally, I organize the clothes hung in my wardrobe according to color, so I enjoy a tiny visual treat of rainbow every time I get dressed. I'm OCD like that, yes. :X But this shouldn't be a surprise to you anymore, kekeke.

The Moonberry Blog http://blog.moonberry.com

Not really that impressive, I know. My clothes are heavy on the neutral colors... but you get the organizational idea. ;) If I had a bigger wardrobe, I might even have taken it a step further and done that thing my ex does: getting hotel-style wooden hangers and spacing each one apart in equal distance. Now THAT is what I call hardcore OCD-ness... I'm not at that level yet. ;p Puwahahaha.
