I gotta say, being a finalist in the Singapore Blog Awards 2011, organized by omy.sg really has it perks. One of these perks includes being invited to a meet-and-greet session over desserts, which recently took place at a food tasting event hosted by 1-Caramel. 1-Caramel is a patisserie, cafe and atelier by the 1 Rochester Group, one of Singapore’s most well-known lifestyle dining groups. An independent and entrepreneurial organisation, it has been awarded in Singapore and also accorded recognition internationally for its creative renewal of underutilised, heritage or hackneyed properties, giving these properties a new lease of life and catering to untouched and evolving demographics.
My sweet tooth and I are definitely not a newcomer when it comes to the world of gourmet desserts. After getting a taste of the patisseries in Paris and being a fan of various New York boutique dessert joints, it is definitely nice to know that Singapore also has plenty to offer in this department of creative and contemporary desserts.
1-Caramel is situated inside Rochester Park, on the second floor house of 1-Rochester (the restaurant). It’s a small little cozy space, where you get to enter through the open kitchen and watch the dessert chefs at work before getting to your seats. Once seated, you get a nice view of the lush greeneries outside, but seriously who cares about the view when the beautiful cakes and dessert trays are waaaay more attractive. :p
FYI, 1-Caramel serves ALL DAY BRUNCH everyday. *cue in mass applause and cheers* Whooohooooo!!!!! Part of the extensive brunch menu, you will get the two items below which I got to sample.
Salmon Egg Benedict.
Brunch platter consisting of Brie and Cherry Tomato Toasts, Gruyere Cheese Tart and Blanched Asparagus wrapped in Parma Ham.
Digging in! *nom, nom, nom*
Signature 1-Caramel Assiette. DECADENCE ON A PLATTER, I tell you.
I can’t remember all of the items on the platter, but I recall something like Lychee Rose Mousse Cake, Death By Chocolate, Baked Alaska, Tropical Vodka Trifle (Pineapple Gelee with Coconut Sorbet) and Earl Grey Creme Brulee. And there’s more!!! See below.
Souffle and sorbet combo.
Chocolate Raspberry Cake Pops.
I really need to start popping some of these out of my own kitchen soon. I have all the ingredients and materials on stand-by already, just haven’t found the motivation and time. :X
With Chris Miller, Group Executive Chef of 1-Rochester Group. This is the man behind the cuisine. :)
Oh, since this event was also a meet-and-greet, naturally I got to meet several of the SBA 2011 finalists. I think this was my first ever get-together with fellow bloggers and it was really nice to meet new people who share similar interests (in this case, blogging and food).

I didn’t get to introduce myself personally to everyone, but here’s everyone at the event. :) *Hello*
Btw, whenever I dined out with pals, I used to be the only (annoying) person at the dining table, whipping out my camera and forbidding everyone to touch the food before I have taken pictures of them. Now I don’t have to be ridiculed anymore because these other bloggers do the same!!! Everyone was armed with a camera and we were all food paparazzi.
What is this? Food papparazi-zation.
Look at how close the lens is to the food. As though the camera was gonna eat that piece of chocolate or something.
So you see? It’s not crazy to be taking photos of your food, thank you very much. :p
1-Caramel is having some very attractive specials right now, so if you wanna experience first-hand the delicious brunch and desserts you see here, please take advantage of these awesome promotions! Bookmark their website and also follow them on Facebook to be the first to know when there are more promotions coming up.
Okie, that’s all. Food overload. Sugar overload. Image overload (on this blog). It was a really fun evening and I am psyched to have met these cool bunch of bloggers. I wore the Simone Stripe Dress from Marc Jacobs, which I also call the Mobama dress. ;P
Cheers,
-MB.
