Cricut Cake

12 February, 2011

When it comes to baking and cake decorating, it all started when I took the Wilton cake decorating class eons ago at Michael’s – all thanks to my sis, who is an inspiration when it comes to baking. Prior to that I have never baked much (if at all) but after I saw the beautiful creations that my sister learned how to make after completing all three Wilton courses, I signed up as well. I only finished the first course and never got around to taking the other two. BUT! That didn’t stop me from dabbling with more cake decorating projects of my own over the years.

Practicing my piping with my bebe. :*)

I have also accumulated a huge amount of baking supplies, some of which are shown above. :X

And now there’s this gadget called Cricut Cake that makes cake decorating easy as pie (pardon the pun). *Screams in excitement* This is going to raise the heat (sorry, again) for me when it comes to baking. The Cricut Cake machine cuts fondant, frosting sheets, gum paste, cookie dough and more. And the process is simply done by selecting an image (from the bundled cartridges), select desired size (which goes from as small as 1/4″ to as big as 24″) and press the “Cut” button. That’s it. Super simple. Think of it as a printer but instead of using ink to print out an image, it uses a blade that cuts out your designs. Mad cool!

WAAAAAAAAHHHHHH. I want one of these babies in my kitchen. Definitely. The original model is a red colored one, but there’s also a Martha Stewart Crafts edition which is white and comes with exclusive design cartridges. This is maddening because this means I gotta get would like to have ALL the cartridges (why stop at one when there are others loaded with various pretty designs, right?). :p Red or white model I haven’t decided on yet, but I’d like to acquire the Cricut Cake no matter what.

Prior to taking the Wilton class, I’ve never baked a cake before. I had no use for the oven and used it to store pots and pans instead. :X Some photos of my baking over the years:

One of the first mini-cakes I made, I think it was Yellow Cake w/ Chocolate Frosting.

My first cupcake ever.

Homemade Marshmallows Rolled in Coconut Flakes.

Green Tea Eclairs.

Pineapple Tarts.

Wedding Cake Decorating Experiment.

Tristan’s Birthday Cupcakes with Fondant Turtles.

Butter Cookies with Sugar Icing.

Macadamia and Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Red Velvet Cupcakes.

Safari Birthday Cupcakes.

Christmas Cookies.

Hmm, they look rather ‘analog’ because all were done by hand one at a time… I’m excited to try the Cricut Cake as I’m sure the results will be much more professional-looking and aesthetically flawless. Or at least that’s what I am hoping for. ;P Hahaha~

Cheers,

-MB.
