Diner en Blanc, a prestigious world-renowned Viral Secret Pop-up Picnic, comes to Asia for the first time, and it’s happening right here in Singapore on August 30th. Mark your calendar!
Diner en Blanc marks the worldʼs first viral event, originated some 24 years ago, a très chic picnic imported from Paris and now taking hold in outdoor public spaces in 20 cities across 5 continents in 2012, from Barcelona to New York City, from Montreal to Sydney. No other pop-up event launched anywhere has managed to create interest worldwide by reaching out to culinary enthusiasts anxious to recreate the concept in their city and assemble them into one network. Come 30 August 2012, the capital of Asia – Singapore, makes history by being the first Asian city to host Diner en Blanc!
At the last minute, the location is given to thousands of friends and acquaintances who have been patiently waiting to learn the “Diner en Blanc’s” secret place. Thousands of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a mass “chic picnic” in a public space. Over the course of the evening, the diners enhance the function and value of their city’s public space by participating in the unexpected. Beyond the spectacle and refined elegance of the dinner itself, guests are brought together from diverse backgrounds by a love of beauty and good taste. Le Diner en Blanc recalls the elegance and glamour of court society, and diners engage one another knowing they are taking part in a truly magical event. There are no disruptions: no car traffic, no pedestrian traffic, except for the occasional amazed and astonished looks from passers-by at the scene unfolding before them. And we, as they, wonder whether it’s all not a dream.
This is going to be a really dreamy and posh event, and I AM GOING!!! :) :) :) Now to come up with an all-white outfit that’s elegant and befitting for this chic picnic…
Registration for diners and placing yourselves on the waiting list are no longer available, BUT! there’s still a chance for you to participate in this special occasion and be at Diner en Blanc by participating as a Photo Contestant. For the first time in 24 years of history, Diner en Blanc presents Singapore Photo Contest. Photos will be judged on the basis of the following criteria:
1. How well the photo conveys the theme of Dîner en Blanc before and after twilight
2. Photographic quality, visual appeal and creativity of vantage points
3. Originality of concept
