If you’ve been following me on Twitter, Instagram and my Facebook page, you’d have already known that last week I was living it up with Fide Fashion Weeks and attending one fashion show after another. I can’t believe it was just last week! I had so much fun all week and this was such an occasion that I must definitely pen it down onto this blog.
Asian Couture evening, part of Fide Fashion Weeks 2012 this year, opened for me with a runway presentation by Thai designer Asava. When the show started, the runway was nearly pitch-black and models began strutting their stuff one after another down the runway donning these super cute kitty beanies. I got the sense that the creative direction and concept for this presentation was a bunch of sexy alley cats slinking around at night in a public park, having a feline party. I spied an item or two which I’d personally wear but really, throughout the entire show my attention was captured by the kitty beanie. :p
I loved how towards the end, all the models marched out together in a group… like a bunch of nocturnal felines prowling for prey.
That’s the designer behind Asava and I dig his sense of humor. He looked like the villain character in an Austin Powers movie, what with his velvet tux and this sleeping eyemask-like shades (which I realized later they are sorta like a very fine mesh, so his vision only appeared to be obstructed). Damn, that’s cool. I want those shades too!
Never mind those shades for now, the serious business here involves the kitty beanie. Clearly I’m not the only one who’s lusting after the kitty beanie. I just found out on the Asava Facebook page that they’re giving away one kitty beanie to a lucky fan…. imagine that, JUST ONE! :] They wouldn’t be doing this if it’s not a highly sought after item. Come on, just make the darn thing available for purchase at the Asava store already!!!
By the way I wore a Versace number, which my mom gifted to me when we were in Milan together a few months ago. Thanks, Ma! ;) It seemed only appropriate to be getting something Italian while in Italy, eh? It’s an asymmetrical dress, as you can see, with a really interesting back cut-out (which unfortunately you can’t see). It’s a cool dress although I’m not too sure how I’m liking the dress now – after I’ve worn it once. I thought it looked a wee bit too plain and boring for me. Probably I have to pimp it up with more accessories or something. Else I’ll have to sentence this dress to temporary exile at the deepest darkest recess of my wardrobe, until I figure out what I can do to it and with it. :[
And here’s a snapshot with Jeannie Mai, this year’s digital correspondent for Fide Fashion Weeks. Basically she covers the ins and outs, the designer interviews, the behind-the-scene sneak peeks of all that’s going on during this fashion week. Many people in Singapore have no idea who she is; she’s host of TV show “How Do I Look?” on US cable channel Style Network which is basically a style makeover show. She’s my Asian American sistah! ;) Find out more about her on her Facebook page.
As you may recall, I attended Singapore Haute Couture Week last year but only managed to see the Stephane Rolland presentation. This year, I got to attend all of the shows — thanks to Dr. Frank Cintamani’s personal invitation. Frank is the chairman of Fide Fashion Weeks and the man who brought all these amazing designers to Singapore, giving them an immense stage to showcase their work.
I pretty much drooled at all the amazing outfits and seized this rare opportunity to get to know some of these designers in person. Stay tuned, I’ll be blogging about them all. :)
Blowing air-kisses from the red carpet,
