I was treated to a major visual treat viewing the exquisite work of bridal couturier Yumi Katsura during Japan Couture Evening at the Fide Fashion Weeks. Madam Katsura is a 47-year veteran in haute couture bridal and pioneered many new techniques and materials for bridal fashion.
I loved how Madam Katsura’s designs combine Japanese heritage into modern designs as well as pushing the envelope when it comes to the wedding dress designs, through the use of innovative materials such as the “phosphorescence” of fluorescent embroidery thread.
The runway presentation was a jaw-dropping experience. I was seated in front of a bunch of dudes and throughout the show I kept hearing them exclaim “Wow!” and comments like “This keeps getting better and better”, “Oh my god, this is soooo beautiful” were heard nonstop as the models walked down the runway showcasing one breathtaking gown after another.
One of the gowns which I fell in love with. The styling is absolutely perfect with birdcage veil, bejewelled choker, a strapless bustier dripping with sparkly crystals and oh-so-decadent satin and fur ruched coat. My gawd, completely regal. Bring on the sub-zero temperatures, I’d totally want to get married in this!!!
For the finale, three models floated down the runway in what appeared to be unassuming bridal gowns. And when the lights were gradually dimmed…
The bridal gowns lit up in a breathtaking display of lights! Everyone in the audience let out a collective gasp and needless to say, the show ended with a standing ovation and cheers. This was indeed a show-stopper and everyone who saw this during the show couldn’t stop gushing afterwards about what a fantastic experience it was.
The amazing Madam Yumi Katsura. Even her kimono had contemporary elements such as the one-shoulder modified obi ribbon detail. *love*
