As part of the Fide Fashion Weeks 2012, I caught the Special Couture Presentation showcasing the work of legendary Singapore designer Thomas Wee. To tell you the truth, this was the one show in the entire fashion week lineup which I was really very very keen in seeing. Primarily because I have a huge interest towards Singaporean designers and I have been consistently drawn to the minimalist approach that these “local” designers have demonstrated in their collections. Personally I find that this minimalist approach translates to timelessness as there is a lot of emphasis on draping, sewing techniques, design details which translate exceptionally well on a a monochromatic palette.
Prior to going to the show, I did my homework to find out more about Thomas Wee. Thomas Wee is recognized as a fashion designer of rare talent and is reputable for his pattern making skills. He is also respected as the “King of Jacket” for his perfectly tailored suits. He dresses some of the most prominent fashion stylish women in Singapore and the region. Most recently he has been honored with the President’s Design Award Singapore 2012. This was one show which I could not miss and I was ecstatic that I got to see his beautiful outfits live on the runway.
I find that the show presented a lot of drama and intrigue for me. From the crisp tailoring to the bold red accents that played off the black silk, all the way down to the details of the models’ deep red lipstick, manicure and also heels. I love the uniformity of it all, yet there were all these gorgeous detailing that set every piece apart.
I was definitely not disappointed. I enjoyed this show very much and every outfit on the runway was super elegant. The work of a true master indeed!
