The Swedish lifestyle and fashion brand Happy Plugs has finally arrived in Singapore. These colorful earphones, nominated for “Best Fashion Accessories” in 2013 Guldknappen fashion award in Sweden, totally live up to its name as they are colorful, hip, available in a wide range of fashionable colors and offer amazing sound. And they’re not expensive either!
I’ve been plugged in a lot these days, especially when I’m on the bus going somewhere I have my earphones on with DJ Okawari (hip hop meets ambient) piping through. For the last handful of years, I’d been using noise-canceling earphones and can never go back to a pair without. Happy Plugs earphones which come in two different designs: Earbud and In-Ear, aren’t advertised as such but they perform just as well as my noise-canceling Sony ones. One of my recent peeves is using earphones which yield shit-ass sound quality (no bass), vocals sound distorted and I can still hear background hum (such as the engine of the bus).
My Happy Plugs earphones is compatible with my iPhone and it has a built-in microphone that allows me to remote talk into calls as well as control my music. I didn’t know it was a microphone at first because the design is so minimal, it didn’t even look like there was a button to press or anything, so I had to look at the instruction manual that came with the box. :X If you look closely, shown above is the Earbud design and shown below is the In-Ear design. I prefer the In-Ear because the silicon eartips fit better and also helps block out outside noise.
I actually almost bought another pair of earphones before getting the Happy Plugs. I was at one of the Apple retailers in the mall asking about a pair of earphones and was appalled by the three-figure price. And it didn’t have noise-canceling function and it wasn’t a fancy-schmancy wireless pair either. Happy Plugs earphones are way more reasonably priced in comparison, both for state of the art designs and impeccable sound quality. The standard colors are S$32 (Earbud) and S$42 (In-Ear), while the deluxe colors are S$39 (Earbud) and S$49 (In-Ear).
See the full spectrum of colors here. Which color would you go for personally?
The pair that I have is Gold In-Ear (a deluxe color). While Happy Plugs earphones come in a range of fashionable colors – a new collection with colors that suit the season is launched twice a year – I am ultra happy to be rocking the gold. It looks mad luxe and I wear it like jewelry. ;)
You can find Happy Plugs earphones at Tangs Orchard, selected Robinsons stores and other major retailers in Singapore.
