Recently I introduced this Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Pads to a gal pal who asked me for skincare advice. Even though she’s on board with the multi-step Korean skincare routine, she noticed that the products she’s using aren’t absorbing well into her skin. Instead, she said that there’s a lot of dirt whenever she touched her skin.
Even though I don’t know what specific products she’s using, I suggested introducing a peeling step into her skincare routine. I believe that taking this extra step helps to remove the dead skin layer beneath prior to applying serums. After which, it will promote better absorption of the serums or other products into the skin.
Personally I use the Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling pads. I was intrigued by this product when I wanted to do a gentle chemical peel at home. I have had chemical peels done before at an aesthetic clinic and always loved the results: skin feels thoroughly cleansed, stubborn clogged whiteheads and blackheads shrivel up and do not grow into zits, while my pigmentation gets lightened gradually.
However, I find that medical-grade chemical peels performed by a doctor can be costly and also harsh/drying because of the higher product concentration so I was thrilled to discover this Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Pads. They’re also very affordable.
There are three different formulas to choose from:
Wine – Its star ingredient, Resveratrol, comes from red wine and is naturally fermented, with naturally occurring AHAs that also help with the exfoliation process. Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant which helps prevent free radicals from pigmenting or forming wrinkles on your skin.
Lemon – The star ingredient, Lemon, is loaded with Vitamin C (a powerful antioxidant) and nutrients that promote visibly clearer, smoother, and brighter skin!
Green Tea – Its star ingredient, Green Tea, is a powerful antioxidant that prevents premature aging and is an anti-inflammatory that helps soothe irritated skin.
I decided to go with the Wine peeling pads. Other skincare products (namely, sheet masks) that I’ve used in the past with Wine as its key ingredient performed well on my face. Every tub of the Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Pads contains 30 single-use double-sided pads. One side is criss-crossed gauze and the other side is soft quilted. The first thing I noticed was these pads are thick and sturdy. It’s also designed as a pocket to tuck your fingers in, how thoughtful.
I was expecting a tingly prickly feeling that I often get with medical-grade chemical peels. But I did not get that sensation so the formula is indeed gentle. I was also expecting a sourish, fermented, alcoholic aroma from these pads (like when you’re smelling wine) but instead the peeling pads smell like grape gummy. That was nice.
How to use Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Pads
First, I rub the criss-crossed gauze side in circular motion GENTLY all over my face, giving special attention to my trouble areas (ie. chin, jaw). I also wiped across my nose because that’s where dirt and sebum are often trapped within the pores. I go over my neck with this pad in upwards motion, but not too much because my neck is prone to redness.
Then, after I’m satisfied these areas are adequately free of loose debris, I flip the pad over to the soft quilted side. I pat the liquid goodness all over face and neck. I leave it on for about 30 seconds before rinsing with water.
Before I throw out the pad, I use both sides to scrub my knees and ankles too. The pad is still saturated with liquid so don’t waste any of the goodness, right? This is when I can see the surfaces of the pad turning dirty brown and gross. Clearly I’ve got a LOT of dead skin on my knees and ankles. After I rinse off, my knees definitely look a lot less rough and brighter. My ankles also look less wrinkly in appearance.
Here’s me immediately after rinsing off before any skincare application and without any makeup at all. Too bad photos can’t express how soft my skin feels and also the brightening effect that I see in the mirror. You’ll just have to trust me when I say that I started with a somewhat lackluster complexion before using the gauze peeling pad.
After every application, I notice that my skin has a subtle pearl-like glow which I super like. Mentally I imagine this as a process of resetting my skin with a clean slate. :)
Compared to the chemical peels I did at a doctor’s office, these Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Pads are gentle enough to use daily. However I didn’t and wouldn’t recommend doing peels at home too often. Because it will make the skin too sensitive, at least for me. So I kept it to just once a week and in tandem with other products that I’m using.
Now that my skin’s clean and visibly clearer, it’s prime time to apply other products in my skincare routine. Because I feel that a fresh and cleansed layer of skin has been revealed, I am confident that the other skincare products I apply are absorbed optimally.
Here’s how I incorporated this product in my skincare routine: double cleansing > peeling pad > toner > softener > serum > emulsion > moisturizer > eye cream > sunscreen.
If you haven’t read it yet, please check out this post on the 10-step Korean skincare routine; I will update it at some point with new product recommendations.
I’m down to my last handful of peeling pads now and will be planning to purchase this again. I’m still deciding whether I should go for a different formula next. Kinda considering the Lemon pads maybe.
