One of the oldest seafood restaurants in Singapore, Red House Seafood has brought families together since 1976. In celebration of its 38th anniversary with a host of new dishes, set lunch and two celebratory set dinners at its flagship Princep Street outlet from now until 30 June 2014. Notable in Red House’s latest creations are the bounty of sustainable seafood which is specially sourced from Scotland and flown into Singapore three times a week.
The 38th anniversary set lunch, affordably priced at S$38++ per person starts off with a Dim Sum Basket, consisting of Siew Mai, Mixed Mushroom Dumpling, Scallop and Chives Dumpling, and Char Siew Pau. This is then followed by Red House’s signature Spicy Seafood Combination, an original creation comprising of succulent pieces of scallops, prawns and fish tossed in a Thai-inspired spicy sauce. Making this a complete meal, Daily Greens and Oyster Yuan Yang Hor Fun are served; the latter is a delectable stir-fried hor fun rice noodles stir-fried with plump oysters, then wrapped in a thin omelette before being coated with a velvety gravy. Crunchy deep-fried hor fun bits are added into this dish for bold texture.
Ending the meal is a choice of either Durian Mochi or Lemongrass Jelly with Lime Sorbet (for those who aren’t into durians).
Diners looking at the 38th anniversary set dinner, $388++ for six people inclusive of a bottle of champagne, or premium white wine, or two jugs of Tiger Beer – again an unbeatable value, will get to sample some of the dishes featured above with the addition of Garlic Steamed Megrim Fish or Scottish Brown Crabs in White Pepper. I personally enjoyed the Scottish Brown Crabs in White Pepper as this preparation accentuates the natural sweetness of these imported crabs.
These sets are available now until 30 June 2014 at the Red House flagship restaurant on Prinsep Street, housed in a restored three-storey shophouse and conveniently located in the heart of Singapore’s museums and heritage district.
