Cuc Gach Quan
9, 10 Dang Tat, Ward Tan Dinh
District 1, Ho Chi Minh City
This homestyle family restaurant is a small establishment inside a home decorated with retro knick-knacks. Featuring Vietnamese food reminiscent of grandma’s cooking, the food here was beautifully executed in its simplicity and unpretentiousness. Served in bowls with chips and cracks, the dishes were unassuming yet robust in flavors.
Cuc Gach Quan is a quaint little space, with no hint at all that it’s a commercial establishment.
Fresh fruit juices served with ‘straws’ made of water spinach stems, just about as cute as the bottle opener that was repurposed as rice scooper.
What did I eat at Cuc Gach Quan?
Fish with Passionfruit Sauce
Claypot Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs
Tofu with Dried Shrimp and Lemongrass
Beef and Vegetable Stirfry of Winged Beans
Claypot Chicken
Zucchini Flowers and Pumpkin Flowers (LOVE!)
I snuck a peek at the kitchen area, on my way to the bathroom.
I am amazed that this is practically someone’s home. It’s really like having an experience of visiting a friend’s house and their Vietnamese grandma cooked local dishes for us.
The food here has been prepared with care and attention, and every dish is delicious! The dishes may look humble and unfussy, but they didn’t skimp on flavors. This meal was so satisfying and every bite was joyful. Cuc Gach Quan is a cozy little place with a lovely ambiance and I definitely recommend it.
