I haven’t blogged much about food recently, but rest assured that I have been eating pretty well. In fact, I spotted Madame Adolf after my lovely breakfast at The Plain, a 4-month old Melbourne-inspired cafe on Craig Road.
I’m not a coffee drinker though, but I’m cool with all-day breakfast which is what they serve at The Plain. An incorrigible late-riser, I’m often stuck in that awkward circadian rhythm limbo of too-late-for-brunch-but-not-fully-awake-and-hungry-enough-for-proper-lunch. Therefore, all day breakfast = whoohooo!!! I can have my eggs, toast and tea freshly-prepared at 2pm in the afternoon and don’t have to settle for some stale leftovers.
The ambiance at The Plain is cozy, the staff (family-run) are warm and friendly. Not a very big place, but comfortable. Upon recommendation, I tried the Darling’s Eggs – which I enjoyed tremendously.
The Plain Darling’s Eggs: poached eggs with ham, cheese & roma tomatoes on sourdough toast. YUMMY IN MY TUMMY.
I super duper love the sourdough toast. By the way, sourdough does not actually taste that sour. Sourdough is a bread product made by a long fermentation of dough using naturally occurring yeasts and lactobacilli. In comparison with breads made quickly with cultivated yeast, it usually has a MILDLY sour taste because of the lactic acid produced via fermentation. So, I guess you can say it’s kinda sorta maybe perhaps a little bit somewhat of a stale bread and it’s made deliberately so. :P But trust me, it’s actually delicious. Don’t worry, you won’t get sick from eating it.
MMmmmMMmmMmmmm, ooooozy poached eggs. Perfecto.
I’d so totally go back to The Plain again… with a book or magazine, and chill out there for hours. Maybe I’ll run into Madame Adolf again next time. ;)
