I was quite bent on shutting out as many distractions as possible during the last few weeks of 2013, so that I could kick back and plot my course for 2014. I had thought that I’d be hiding indoors, inside the comfort of my apartment and quietly spending the holidays in the company of my kitty cat. Alas, I couldn’t turn down an invitation to spend a week at the Southern Thai Islands – at places I’d never been before. I was having difficulty sleeping for a couple of months now and I probably should just go off somewhere to clear my head. So with fingers crossed, I jetted off and hoped that it’d turn out good.
For a non-outdoorsy person (me), what I experienced at these islands greatly exceeded my expectations! Rode a motorcycle everywhere, took ferries, hiked in the jungle, stood beneath a waterfall, soaked in a natural hot spring, swam in the ocean and baked under the sun – the last two I’d been avoiding for years. And there were gorgeous sunsets daily. Temporarily breaking out of my comfort zone did a lot of good for me. I came back feeling like all of it must’ve been a surreal dream as everything was beautiful in one form or another.

This vacation turned out to be better than good, it was pretty darn memorable. (Now my life fair complexion will never be the same again.)
